About This Memorial

The Path of Honor - Wind River Veterans Memorial is a tribute to military service members and veterans from the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming. It commemorates conflicts from 1868 through the Gulf War, including World Wars I and II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, and post-Vietnam conflicts. Located at the Frank B. Wise Business Center in Fort Washakie, the memorial aims to unify, honor, and inspire by preserving the legacy of Indigenous veterans. Notable features include thematic sections for each war era and quotes from veterans like Wayne C'Hair and Kristi Westcott. The project emphasizes the courage and sacrifice of Wind River's Native American veterans across multiple generations of service.

"We stopped here on June 13 while on a bicycle trip and were impressed with the sincerity and simplicity of this fitting memorial to those veterans and active military who have lived on the Wind River Reservation. There are large stone markers for each branch of service with quotations on the front of the marker and engraved images on the reverse side. A nearby board lists those who lost their lives in service to our country. A stop here to honor those who served and sacrificed is well worth the time spent."
