About This Memorial
The Bennington Battle Monument is a 306-foot tall structure completed in 1891, constructed from blue-grey magnesium limestone to commemorate the pivotal Battle of Bennington during the American Revolutionary War. It honors the August 16, 1777 battle that weakened British General Burgoyne's forces, contributing to the subsequent American victory at Saratoga - considered the war's turning point. The monument serves as both a memorial to this decisive conflict and a Vermont State Historic Site, maintained with support from a volunteer nonprofit group. Its imposing height and durable limestone construction make it a distinctive landmark, while its purpose remains rooted in preserving the memory of this Revolutionary War engagement that helped secure American independence.

"Great views on a bright clear fall day. Went on a weekday around 1pm and was not very busy. A single small elevator on the way up, it does cost some money so if you can afford it, I think it's worth it. Great grounds to walk around as well for free if you just want to stretch. Small gift shop as well."
