Vietnam Veterans Memorial
About This Memorial
The Waco Vietnam Veterans Memorial commemorates local veterans of the Vietnam War through three pavilions symbolizing the nation before, during, and after the conflict. Inspired by Marine veteran Manuel Sustaita's 1985 visit to the national memorial, it honors 83 fallen soldiers from McLennan County with etched names and military seals. Designed by Don Matthews, the memorial features inscriptions about unity and sacrifice, including a Patrick Henry quote, and stands along the Brazos River as a place for reflection on the war's impact.

"Very nice memorial, well laid out on the bank of the Brazos River. There's not too much traffic to distract you from the memorial, and there is shade around the three pavilions."
"Small and not much of a memorial for such a long, tragic, controversial, and costly foolish sacrifice of American young men lives."
