About This Memorial
The San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site commemorates the decisive 1836 Battle of San Jacinto, where General Sam Houston's Texan forces defeated the Mexican army to secure Texas' independence. The site features a 567-foot-tall monument, one of the tallest war memorials in the world, honoring the sacrifice and victory of Texan settlers, Tejanos, and volunteers. Notable elements include a museum, reflecting pool, and preserved coastal prairie that resembles the battlefield's original conditions. It primarily memorializes the Texas Revolution and the soldiers who fought for independence from Mexico. The monument's design and surrounding grounds serve as both a tribute and educational resource about this pivotal moment in Texas history.

"The adult ticket is $14. I came here around 15:45, and there was a very educational guiding movie about history. You can ride the elevator and go to the top of the memorial building; the view is astonishing. At about 17:30, you can walk around the park and enjoy the sunset. The pool reflects the monument building, and the wind is breezing. It is a wonderful place to chill."
