About This Memorial

The state’s official Vietnam Memorial can be found inside Fair Park near the intersection of Parry and First avenues, to the west of the Esplanade Fountain near the Automobile Building. Located inside Veterans Park, the memorial was dedicated by President George H.W. Bush in 1989. Five Texas granite tablets bear the names of 3,271 Texans killed in action, 156 missing in action, 54 recovered remains and 102 still missing. Among those listed, nine received the Medal of Honor for their service. The tranquil sounds of a waterfall near the tablets provide a soothing element to the memorial, and during the State Fair of Texas, veterans are on hand to educate visitors about the site.
