About This Memorial
The Royal Oak Veterans War Memorial was originally unveiled in 1946 to honor 102 local men who died in World War II. Over time, it expanded to include separate granite pillars for Korean and Vietnam War casualties 1969 and a World War I memorial boulder 1972. The memorial features marble bases, flagpoles, and landscaped reflection spaces, having been relocated multiple times for preservation and accessibility. It commemorates Royal Oak residents who sacrificed their lives in these four major conflicts. The site was formally dedicated as Veterans Memorial Plaza in 2007 after community efforts to create a respectful space for remembrance.
