About This Memorial
The Franklin Soldiers and Sailors Monument, located on the town common, commemorates men from Franklin who fought in the Civil War. Dedicated on Memorial Day 1903, it was designed by New England Granite Works and features a sculpture by Carl Conrads, identical to monuments in Taunton and Easton. The monument honors those who served in major battles including Antietam, Petersburg, Spotsylvania, and Gettysburg. It was donated by Frederick Atwood Newell, a Franklin native and Civil War veteran who later became a successful jeweler. The inscription reads 'In Grateful Remembrance of the Men of Franklin Who Fought to Save the Union.'

"Little hidden gem in Franklin. Nice Park area. The monument is pretty cool. Parking is very easy (side street parking all around the common area). And there's also a farmer's market during the day during the summer. Fun place to walk the dog or just walk around at."
