About This Memorial
The Easton Soldiers' Monument commemorates the 47 men from Easton who died in the Civil War out of 334 who served. Located at the intersection of Depot and Center Streets, this granite memorial was originally dedicated in 1882 and recently rededicated in 2023 after being moved from a dangerous traffic island to a more accessible park. Designed by James G. Batterson's New England Granite Works with sculpture by Carl Conrads, it features a statue similar to Conrads' 'American Volunteer' design seen in other Massachusetts towns. The monument's rededication ceremony coincided with Juneteenth, reflecting on both Civil War sacrifices and emancipation. Its original placement near the former Town Hall made it a civic focal point, now restored as a place for reflection.
