About This Memorial

The Wichita Veterans Memorial Park commemorates veterans from multiple American wars through 18 distinct memorials. Established in 2009 through a partnership between the city and the Veterans Memorial Park of Wichita organization, it honors conflicts ranging from the Revolutionary War to modern operations like Operation Freedom. Notable memorials include tributes to Gold Star Families, Purple Heart recipients, POW/MIA personnel, and specific military branches like the Merchant Marine and Submarine Service. The park features symbolic elements like the Veterans Walkway with personalized bricks and the Wichita Flag Pavilion. It serves as a comprehensive tribute to military service across U.S. history.

"What an absolute perfect place to hold a military Change of Command Ceremony. The irony, to me, was that the outgoing Commander was a Puerto Rican male and the incoming, a black female. Just shows how the past (racial divide) and the present (diverse consciousness) came together. I love my Country"
