About This Memorial

The World War II Memorial on the American Legion Mall in Indianapolis commemorates Indiana's contributions to World War II. Designed by architect Patrick Brunner, it features a distinctive half-circle design with a 9-foot-2-inch radius. The memorial honors Hoosier Medal of Honor recipients and distinguished Indiana military units through inscriptions on its convex side, while the concave side displays excerpts from veterans' letters home and lists major campaigns of the war. Its location near the American Legion National Headquarters underscores its significance in honoring Indiana's WWII veterans. The memorial's design shares similarities with nearby Korean and Vietnam War memorials but is notably larger in scale.
