About This Memorial

The Veterans Memorial in San Jose/Santa Clara Valley is a public art installation honoring individuals who served in the five branches of the U.S. military. Designed through a nationwide competition, it features a formation of flag poles and life-size figures of military personnel from various eras, accompanied by textual remembrances from local veterans. The memorial commemorates the sacrifices of veterans, with 50 selected narratives from over 3,000 submissions. It broadly honors service across different periods of U.S. military history. The glass-walled installation serves as a reflective space to acknowledge veterans' contributions to the nation.

"This memorial commemorates and pay tribute to all the men and women who have served in the US military. Located on Park Avenue, directly across Adobe HQ and next to Center of Performing Arts, the park has about 142 white flags and one big US flag leading ahead at the entrance. While white flags often being used to represent surrender, but in this case, the white flags are representing peace and the 142 brave souls of San Jose who gave their life in Vietnam War. It was a tranquil moment to see these art installation to honor the veterans."
