About This Memorial
The Anchorage Veterans' Memorial on the Delaney Park Strip honors Alaskan citizens lost in wars including WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, the Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Originally built 26 years prior, its renovation added disabled access, lighting, and new artistic elements while preserving bronze panels listing the fallen and a WWII soldier statue. Notable features include the Fallen Warrior statue, two sculptured screen panels 'Reflections on the Great One' and 'O’er Land and Sea a Beacon Bright', and symbolic elements like an eagle release representing veterans' souls. The memorial serves as Anchorage's central venue to recognize military service and sacrifice, with contributions from veterans' groups, foundations, and the community.
