About This Memorial

The Korean War Memorial on Washington's Capitol Campus, constructed in 1993, was the first state-sponsored memorial in the U.S. dedicated to the Korean War. It features three bronze statues of weary soldiers huddled around a campfire, surrounded by 22 flags representing nations that allied with the U.S. during the conflict. The memorial commemorates the 122,000 Washington soldiers who served and lists the names of those killed in action. Designed by artist Deborah Copenhaver Fellows, it serves as a reflection on the sacrifices made during what is often called the 'Forgotten War.' The site includes informational plaques and stone tablets inscribed with the names of fallen soldiers from Washington state.
